Dr. Donghai Liu is a Chair Professor and the Department Head of Water Conservancy and Hydroelectric Engineering, Tianjin University. He is a National Leading Talent in Scientific and Technological Innovation, Outstanding Young Scholar of the Ministry of Education, and Young and Middle-aged Leading Scientific and Technological Talent of Tianjin Municipality.

He concurrently serves as Deputy Director of the Special Committee on Dam Safety and Resilience Improvement of Chinese National Committee on Large Dams, Standing Member of the Intelligent Construction Committee of China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization, and a Member of the Hydraulic Engineering Discipline Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education.

His researches focus on intelligent construction and system simulation of mega projects, and novel hydraulic structure materials for cold regions. As the principal investigator, he has undertaken 6 National Natural Science Foundation projects, over 50 research projects including 973 Program topics, national key R&D sub-projects and commissioned research programs for major engineering projects.

He has published more than 100 SCI/EI indexed papers, authored 5 monographs, and obtained over 30 authorized invention patents. He has won 3 Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 8 First Prizes of Provincial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards (including one First Prize of Tianjin Science and Technology Progress Award as the first completionist), as well as Tianjin Youth Science and Technology Award and Zhang Guangdou Outstanding Young Scientist Award.
