Dr. Chen received his Ph. D. in Microbiology in 2008, from Chinese Academy of Sciences. After graduating, he spent three years at Virginia Commonwealth University as a post-doc. In 2011, he returned to China and served as Associate Professor in School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Tianjin University. Dr. Chen was promoted to full professor in 2018. His current research interest is mainly focused on the design and construction of photosynthetic cyanobacteria chassis. In the past five years, he has received 8 competitive grants as PI, with total amount of over 6,000,000 RMB, including those from the National Science Foundation of China, National Basic Research Program of China (“973” program) and so on. Dr. Chen has already published more than 100 SCI papers.
