Chao Qin obtained both the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Tianjin University in 2009, 2011 and 2014 respectively. After that he has been a lecturer of School of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Tianjin University where he teaches courses and directs research on power systems. From April 4, 2017 to October 5, 2017, he has been a visiting scholar at Illinois Institute of Technology, US.
Dr. Qin’s research interests include power system operation and planning, power system security and stability, power system reliability and risk assessment and wind power integration. He has published more than 30 technical papers in these areas. He is a co-developer of two tools for the risk assessment of power systems: BTNRAS (Bulk Transmission Network Risk Assessment System) and GORA (Grid Operation Risk Assessment software). Both of them have been applied to guide daily works of some power companies in China. He is also PI or CO-PI of multiple projects from the Natural Science Foundation, State Grid Cooperation of China, State Grid Electric Power Research Institute and some other power utilities.
