Shengbin Lei received his MS in 1999 from the Department of Chemistry, Shandong University and his Ph.D. in 2002 in physical chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, CAS (China) under the supervision of Prof. Chen Wang. After working for four years at the same institute in the field of surface assembly and scanning tunneling microscopy, he joined the group of Prof. Steven De Feyter at K.U. Leuven as a postdoctoral researcher, working in the field of 2D nanoporous networks and host-guest chemistry. He joined HIT in September 2009 as a professor, where his research focuses on 2D crystal engineering at interfaces and characterization of nanomaterials. On Aug. 2015, he moved to Tianjin University. His currrent research interest are synthesis and application of organic two-dimensional  materials.

He has published more than 120 papers in top journals of chemistry and material sciences, for instance, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Nano Lett., Adv. Mater., ACS Nano, Nanoscale, Chem. Comm., Chem. Eur. J. etc. and have been cited for more than 3900 times. 

• Surface confined dynamic covalent chemistry-----
  Understanding how the constitutional dynamics of a dynamic combinatorial library (DCL) adapts to surface (compared to bulk solution) is of fundamental importance to the design of adaptive materials.
• 高规整度二维聚合物的表面反应制备
  
  基于对表面动态共价反应的理解，我们发展了一种基于动态共价键的二维聚合物表面合成方法，在固/液和固/气界面上实现了大范围、连续、具有规整结构的席夫碱二维聚合物的制备，单个结晶畴区首次达到微米尺寸，且重复周期、孔尺寸可调(ACS Nano, 2013, 9, 8066-8073)。
  
• 表面动态组合化学
  
  动态组合化学中整个体系处于热力学平衡控制下，因此溶液中体系组成决定于组合库中各组分的热力学稳定性。而当一个动态化学反应在表面发生时，体系组成将转而受到整个界面组装体而非单一组分热力学稳定性的控制。以2，6-二氨基蒽醌与辛氧基对苯二醛为例我们展示了反应物的界面组装结构如何影响表面反应的进行。2，6-二氨基蒽醌与辛氧基对苯二醛之间可通过氢键形成超分子组装结构，给表面反应带来额外的势垒，阻止反应的进行。而我们通过控制反应物摩尔比可以调控组装结构的稳定性，从而控制反应的进行，选择性地得到二组分超分子组装结构或者一维希夫碱聚合物。
