Wang Ping is a professor with the School of Electrical and Information Engineering of Tianjin University, China. She is a doctoral supervisor majoring in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems and director of the Modern Electric and Electronic Technology Center. She is also a vice chairman of the Education Steering Committee of Electric and Electronic Basic Course of Colleges and Universities of Ministry of Education, a vice chairman of the Electrotechnics Research Association of Chinese Colleges and Universities, and a guest researcher of the Tianjin Institute of Meteorological Sciences.

She has been teaching Electrotechnics for undergraduates for 35 years, Pattern Recognition for graduate students for 27 years and Computer Vision for graduate students for 20 years. She is the chief editor and master translator of 4 books.

She has been engaged in recognizing and forecasting the severe convective disaster weather by use of the technologies of pattern recognition and artificial intelligence for 16 years. The operational system independently developed by her own research team has been successfully applied to nearly 200 weather radars through the Public Service Center of China Meteorological Administration. She has published more than 50 research papers.
