Prof. Zhang has been working in the area of chemical engineering, bio-ethanol production and conversion for more than 29 years. He has obtained 54 granted patents (5 PCT). 41 plants in China were built up using the technologies developed by his group. He has won the 2^nd Prize of The National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Scientific and Technological Progress and Technical Invention Award in provincial and ministerial level 5 times, China Patent Gold Medal, China Patent Excellence Award 3 times, and Tianjin Patent Gold Medal 4 times. He has published more than 90 scientific papers, and supervised 58 graduate students. He has won the State Council Expert for Special Allowance in 2002, Hou te Pang Chemical Science and Technology Award and National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers in 2012.
