Brief Introduction
Prof. Zhang graduated from Department of Physics, Nankai University, Tianjin,China, in 1994. In the same year, he joined Department of Optoelectronics and Information Engineering, School of Precision Instruments and Opto-electronics Engineering, Tianjin University,China. In 2001, he was promoted exceptionally to professor. Since then, he has been a full professor at Tianjin University. From July 2001 to June 2002, he was with Department of Electronic Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, where he engaged in a collaboration study on LiNbO3-based integrated optical devices. Since then, a close academic collaboration relationship has been established with the City University of Hong Kong. He visits the university every year to carry out academic exchange activities and strengthen the cooperation each other.
Prof. Zhang emphasizes his research interests on the development of LiNbO3-based active and passive integrated optical waveguide devices. He and his co-workers firstly proposed and carried out the development of photorefractive-damage-resistant active and passive Ti in-diffused LiNbO3 strip waveguide based on the concept of near-stoichiometry, and have successfully fabricated various types of photorefractive-inhibitor  doped active and passive photorefractive-damage-resistant near-stoichiometric Ti in-diffused LiNbO3 strip waveguides. The succeeding in the fabrication of these waveguides opens up with a new way and constructs an important technical supporting platform for the further development of novel active and passive devices. His research group has also developed some photorefractive-damage-resistant active and passive devices such as waveguide amplifier and high-speed optical filter. In addition, Dr. Zhang and his co-workers have also carried out much research work on the property improvement of related materials, investigated a number of crucial scientific and technical problems related to the fabrication and performance of the devices, and obtained a lot of novel and valuable research results. These results play an active role in promoting and accelerating the step of LiNbO3-based devices to the utilization stage. Dr. Zhang is the author or co-author of over 180 technical papers published in peer-reviewed international journals with good reputation.
As a reviewing expert, Prof. Zhang serves to a number of scientific research grant foundations or organizations, such as National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China, Henry Fok Fund (Awards), Awards for Excellent Research Results and Scholars of Colleges and Universities of China, and National Post Doctoral Fund of China. Prof. Zhang also serves to academic community. As an invited reviewer, he serves to near 30 international scientific journals, such as Appl. Phys. Lett., Opt. Lett., Opt. Exp., Opt. Mater. Exp., J. Lightwave Technol., IEEE Photon. Technol. Lett., ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces, J. Appl. Phys., J. Mater. Sci., J. Phys. Chem., Mater. Sci.Eng.C-Mater. Biol. Appl., Crystal Growth & Design, Mater.
