(1) Behaviors about Teacher's professional ethics, teaching and talent training Dr Hongbo Liu teaches four undergraduate courses including Design Principle of Steel Structure, English for Civil Engineering, Design of Composite Structure, and Structural steel structure Design and one postgraduate course Large-span Building Structure System. Dr Liu has supervised 11 master students for research dissertations independently, and 11 PhD students for research dissertations cooperatively, among whom five has earned national scholarships. Dr Liu has also supervised four Undergraduate Innovation Programs and 12 undergraduate theses. Dr Liu has successfully completed a National Engineering Degree Graduate Student Education Reform Program, and a key project of Tianjin University Undergraduate Teaching Projects. Dr Liu has been awarded Tianjin University Teaching Advanced staffs in 2014, awarded with honor of Teaching Advanced Youth Pioneer Post on the 120th anniversary of the foundation of Tianjin University in 2015 and Ten Outstanding Young Teachers of Tianjin University in 2016. (2) Major academic achievements and scientific significance Dr Liu has experiences in managing research projects and leading research team. He has successfully completed fifty-four research projects since 2011, acting as principal investigator (PI) in twenty-eight projects (with a total cost of RMB 3,437,300) and co-investigator (Co-I) in the other twenty-six (with a total cost of RMB 12,844,000). These projects were funded by NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China), National Key Research and Development Plan, and Ministry of Education and so on. Dr Liu’s research work is focusing on the reliable and cost-effective structural solutions for large-span buildings with advanced steel and aluminium materials at room temperature and fire hazards. |
To date, Dr Liu has published seventy-seven peer-reviewed academic papers in well-regarded journals including Engineering Structures, Thin-Walled Structures, Construction and Building Materials, Journal of Constructional Steel Research, Advances in Structural Engineering and Advanced Steel Construction and so on. Thirty-seven peer-reviewed academic papers as first author or corresponding author has been indexed in SCI-E . Dr Liu has published two books : The Non-uniform Temperature Effect of Solar Radiation on Large-span Spatial Structures with the fund of Postdoctoral Outstanding Academic Monographs, and Load Capacity Performance and Design Method of Fastener-type Full Steel Tubular Scaffold Systems with the fund of Tianjin Outstanding Academic Monographs. He has been invited to give
Dr Liu has won the second prize of Science-Technology Progress Prize of the Ministry of Education (ranked the 2nd), the second prize of the Science-Technology Progress Prize of Hebei Province(ranked the 5th) and been awarded the Excellent Young Science-and-Technology Talents of Tianjin Innovative Talent Promotion Plan, Tianjin 131 Creative Personnel Training Project and the Peiyang Young Scholars in Tianjin University; besides that, the applicant has been awarded the 15th College Young Teachers Fund of the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation. Dr Liu’s doctoral dissertation Study on the construction control theory and temperature effect of suspen-dome structure was honored as National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations in 2013; and his research work has been a highlight in the Annual report of Chinese postdoctoral work (2013). (3) In the aspects of social services Dr Liu’s research work have been successfully used in more than 30 large-span building structures, including Inner Mongolia Ordos airport terminal, Tianjin Yujiapu transportation station, and Shandong Chiping gymnasium in China. |
As the editor, Dr Liu has been compiling the standard Technical specification of aluminum alloy space grid structure of China. As the main sponsor, he has been compiling 7 standards including The Technical regulation for cast steel structure for China, The Technical regulation for Retractable Roof Structure for China, and The Technical regulation for Steel structure module building for china, etc., which made contribution to the promotion of civil structure in China.
As deputy director of the organization committee of National Symposium on Modern Structural Engineering, Dr Liu has organized the 14th to 17th National Symposium on Modern Structural Engineering; as the deputy Secretary-General of Tianjin Steel Structure Association, Dr Liu has organized the Tianjin Youth Science and Technology Forum, academic exchange seminar and other academic exchange communications for 6 times.
(4) Employment Objective
In terms of teaching, Dr Liu will keep on with teaching duties of Civil Engineering Specialized
English, Structural Steel Structure Design and Large-span Building Structure System. Meanwhile, He plans teaching work of Building Structure and Structural System. Adhering to the spirit of conscientiousness, the applicant will be enthusiastic and responsible for teaching work as well as supervising students, improving teaching skills in accordance with Tianjin University Teaching Ethics. |
In terms of research, Dr Liu will keep on with the reliable and cost-effective structural solutions for large-span buildings with advanced steel and aluminium materials at room temperature and fire hazards. Within next 5 years, Dr Liu will strive for 2-3 research projects from Natural Science Foundation of China and 10-15 other research projects; publish more than 5 SCI papers each year.
In addition, Dr Liu will be an active participator in the international academic exchanges and cooperation, and further strengthen cooperation with the University of Edinburgh and the University of Sheffield in the field of steel structure and try best to get one EU research project as co-investigator.
