Brief Introduction

Liu Fei is currently a Tenured Distinguished Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor at the Center for Sustainable Development, School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University. I received my Bachelor of Engineering in Remote Sensing Science and Technology from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2013, and concurrently obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese from Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a minor. In 2018, I earned my Master of Science in Earth Sciences from the University of Tsukuba, during which I also took courses in World Heritage and Nature Conservation. In 2021, I received my Doctor of Science in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Tsukuba, and was honored with the "Excellent Research Achievement Award" from the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences as a representative of outstanding doctoral graduates.

From 2021 to 2025, I served as a Research Associate at the Center for Climate Change Adaptation, National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan. I participated as a key researcher in the national research project S‑18 "Integrated Research on Climate Change Impact Prediction and Adaptation" funded by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and contributed to the writing of the national comprehensive report on climate change impacts and adaptation in Japan, entitled Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Strategies in Japan – Toward a Resilient and Sustainable Society (2025). I have long been dedicated to interdisciplinary research on urban sustainable development based on geospatial data analysis, with research interests covering urban remote sensing, urban ecological security, ecosystem services, and climate change impacts and adaptation strategies. In recent years, I have published over ten academic papers in leading international journals in the fields of remote sensing, environment, and climate. My research findings have been presented as oral presentations at top international conferences such as AGU, JpGU, EGU, and IGARSS, with a total of more than 30 oral presentations, and I have been invited to give several invited talks. In addition, I serve as a Guest Editor for the special issue "Remote Sensing of Climate Change Influences on Urban Ecology" in the journal Remote Sensing.

Currently, I am a project leader in the international cooperative research project "Dynamic Modeling and Coupled Regulation of Sustainable Development in Mountain Social‑Ecological Systems" funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), where I am responsible for optimizing the assessment indicator system for mountain sustainable development and constructing typical case studies and policy pools. I maintain long‑term and close academic exchanges and collaborations with prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally, including the University of Tokyo, University of Tsukuba, Chiba University, Nagoya University, the National Institute for Environmental Studies (Japan), and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

My research group warmly welcomes students with backgrounds in Earth sciences, geography, ecology, remote sensing, Geographic Information Science (GIS), urban planning, computer science, and related fields to contact us for inquiries or applications. I look forward to exploring the frontiers of science for a sustainable future together with you.
