On October 26, 2016, the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) announced 25 newly elected Fellows for 2016. Tianjin University’s Distinguished Professor and alumnus Hao Hong was on the list.
Professor Hao received his BE degree in Hydraulic Engineering from Tianjin University in 1982. In 1985 and 1989 respectively, he obtained his MSc in Civil Engineering and Ph.D in Structural Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. Professor Hao has made ground-breaking contributions to the advancement of knowledge and practice of structural dynamics. His results have been included in design codes and textbooks, and applied in engineering practice worldwide providing safe and robust civil infrastructure against natural and man-made dynamic loads. His strong international standing is evident in his publications and his leadership positions in professional committees and services to many government agencies and industrial organizations globally.
For the past ten years working at Tianjin University, Professor Hao has made outstanding contributions to the development of Tianjin University in structural engineering, disaster prevention, and disaster reduction engineering. With his efforts, Tianjin University-Curtin University Joint Research Center of Structural Monitoring and Protection and Tianjin University-University of Western Australia Joint Research Center for Protective Structures were established. Professor Hao’s research team at Tianjin University includes one winner of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, and over ten postgraduates including doctoral students.
