Crabapple Season at Peiyang Park Campus

The fifth Crabapple Season comes at a time when all crabapple are in full blossom. With the theme of “Meet at Tianjin University, enjoy the campus life”, Tianjin University organized more than 77 events at both Weijin Road Campus and Peiyang Park Campus. Events at Weijin Road Campus, where nearly 800 Crabapple are planted, focused on enjoying the beauty of the Crabapple, while activities at Peiyang Park Campus put emphasis on traditional culture concerning “Crabapple Season”.

On April 9, 2016, Peiyang Park Campus welcomed hundreds of students and teachers to appreciate the history of Tianjin University and to participate in various activities. Conducted east of the Zheng Dong Library were the cultural activity of “Crabapple Season”, comprising of calligraphy shows, etiquette shows, Han Chinese costume shows and paper-cuts shows. These activities attracted many students to both enjoy and try.

At the same time, a series of activities on the “Vivacious Peiyang Park Campus” were ongoing on the west of the library. Peiyang Arts Troupe held a public performance, which contained rock, guitar and harmonica performances. Moreover, “Green Peiyang Park Campus”, “Harmonious Peiyang Park Campus” and “Wise Peiyang Park Campus” were also carried on simultaneously.

The most impressing event at Peiyang Park Campus was an exhibition of Peiyang spirit. It was held in the first floor of Zheng Dong Library, showing visitors manuscript, notes and works of students and teachers at different periods through pictures. It contained Zhang Jingru’s math notes, written in English, He Huanran’s graduate design instruction book and many other excellent works of former students. Those eminent teachers received their education in Tianjin University and chose to serve as a teacher here at TJU after graduating. It was their devotion to the University that made Tianjin University flourish.

A teacher of Tianjin University who was visiting this exhibition with her daughter granted us an interview. She shared with us her views on this activity, “All teachers in these pictures are outstanding professors from Tianjin University. I can see their practical attitude towards work and teaching in these notes and manuscripts, which also represents the spirit of Tianjin University, that is, seeking truth from facts. Since now we use computers or mobile phones more, fewer of us tend to write in paper. And seeing these old notes really brings back to me a feeling of nostalgia.”

The fifth “Crabapple Season” was a great success at Peiyang Park Campus. As a newly-built campus, Peiyang Park Campus is trying to provide more surprises and happiness to both teachers and students.
