Recently, "The Sixth National College Students Ship and Ocean Engineering Design Competition" was held at the Weijin Road Campus, Tianjin University. This competition, a scientific and technological innovation activity aimed at national universities and colleges, is sponsored by the Marine Engineering Professional Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and organized by Tianjin University. This contest aims at encouraging "practice, innovation, green" with the theme, "design the dream ship, then set sail". Since March 2016,the competition has been underway over five months, including registration in April, entry submissions, preliminaries and final lists announcements in June and final contests and awards presentation in September. The organizing committee selected 21 finalists from 48 works submitted by 30 universities. There was a total of 8 teams who won the first prize, 8 teams won the second prize, and 5 teams won the third prize through fierce competition.
Four teams from Tianjin University entered the competition. "The topology optimization design of deep-water submarine pipeline buckle arrestor" project from Wu Jingyi's team and "high-speed trimaran" project from Huang Mingzhe's team won first prizes. The project of Gao Yuanpan's team named "Arctic floating research platform" won second prize.
This competition helped participants establish a spirit of hard work, innovation, unity and cooperation, contributing to scientific and technological communication and solid training of groups of students to improve their practice and innovation in ship and ocean engineering.
