Tianjin University Appraisal Conference of Student Scholarships and Grants

Recently, a conference to appraise the granting of student scholarships, and grants was held at Tianjin University.

During the meeting, Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs Wu Jinke evaluated the overall process of student scholarships and grants that had been awarded from 2015 to 2016. To date sponsors involving government, social communities, alumni and personal patrons has set up 88 different scholarships and grants at Tianjin University, which included 49 scholarships, 17 endeavor scholarships and 18 grants. The total amount reached 31.605 million RMB. It has been estimated that there were 1,288 students eligible for scholarships, 809 students with financial difficulties were eligible for Endeavor Scholarships and 4,242 impoverished fellows were qualified for grants.

Pan Xiaorui, Deputy Director of the Office of Alumni and Peiyang Education Development Foundation said that, Pacemaker Scholarship, the highest honor for student scholarships at the university, was donated to be set up in 2008 by university leaders, industries and alumni. Until now, the Pacemaker Scholarship has awarded 60 outstanding students who set a good example both in academic achievements as well as in morality. Since 2016, the scholarship for each Pacemaker was increased to 30,000 RMB per year. At the same time, the university decided to set up a new allocation for Pacemaker nominees and each of those would get a yearly award of 10,000 RMB.
