Visit by the former Speaker of the South Korean National Assembly

Upon his wishes, Mr. Kim Hyung-oh, former Speaker of the South Korean National Assembly and Honorary Doctorate of Tianjin University (TJU) planted another “China-South Korean Friendship Tree” at the Peiyang Park Campus of Tianjin University on October 13, 2015. He previously planted a “China-South Korean Friendship Tree” at the Weijin Road Campus of the university in April, 2010.

Dr. Kim Hyung-oh was met by the President Li Jiajun. During their meeting, President Li updated Dr. Kim Hyung-oh on the 120th Anniversary celebration of Tianjin University, the new Peiyang Park Campus, as well as the management and operation of a multi-campus university. He stated that Tianjin University would be commited to improving the level and quality of student training as always.

President Li also expressed his appreciation to Dr. Kim Hyung-oh for donating a cedar tree to his alma mater as another “China-South Korean Friendship Tree”. HE then, presented Dr. Kim Hyung-oh with a memorial book that had Dr. Kim ’s calligraphy of “Seeking Truth From Facts” in it. Dr. Kim Hyung-oh said that on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his alma mater, he was very pleased to pay a visit.

After the meeting, accompanied by Tianjin University’s Vice President Liu Dongzhi and both the Chinese and South Korean student representatives, Dr. Kim Hyung-oh planted the “China-South Korean Friendship Tree”. Both the tree he had planted five years ago at the Weijing Road Campus and the recently planted tree at the Peiyang Park Campus symbolized the inheritance and development of the two campuses of Tianjin University, as well as the long-standing and well-established friendship between China and South Korea.

He hoped that the Peiyang Park Campus could progress the development of Tianjin University. Dr. Kim Hyung-oh came to Tianjin at the invitation of the “Binhai Conference on Peace and Development in North-East Asia” where he had addressed the delegates.
