President Zhong Denghua Attends President’s Meeting of E9&UCEER Forum

On November 23, TJU’s President Zhong Denghua attended “the 9th Presidents Meeting of Excellence 9 (E9) and Presidents’ Forum of the UK-China University Consortium on Engineering Education and Research (UCEER)” hosted by Southeast University. Delegates from domestic and foreign universities attended the meeting.

The UCEER Forum was divided into three panels — Globalization and Higher Education: Challenges and Opportunities for UK and Chinese Universities, International Exchanges and Cooperation Help Build World-Class Universities, and Boosting Knowledge Transfer and Innovation between Universities and Industry: New Trends and Strategies.

On Panel 3, President Zhong introduced how TJU promotes the integration of production and education, cross-disciplinary integration and encourages “going global”, which lay emphasis on the “Emerging Engineering Education”. He also shared the experience of TJU on knowledge and achievement transformation, and the construction of research institutes outside campus.

All the E9 presidents gave addresses at the ninth Presidents’ Meeting of E9. They said that the cooperation between the E9 members is getting closer, and it is expected that with the E9 as a bond they would be able to promote exchanges and strive for win-win cooperation. The delegate from the Harbin Institute of Technology — the university chairman on duty, gave an annual work summary of the year 2017 to 2018. An annual work plan for 2018 and 2019 was made by Southeast University. Chongqing University was elected as the 2020 university chairman on duty.

The E9 was established in 2010, and since then the nine members have taken turns as the university chairman of the year. Regular presidents’ meetings have been held annually with the spirit of cultivating outstanding talents. All-round and in-depth exchanges have been developed on the basis of resource sharing and the industrial-education-research cooperation.

Founded in 2017, UCEER was composed of the E9 members and nine engineering universities in the UK. It aims at cultivating leading talents in the engineering field through interdisciplinary cooperation and resource sharing. The nine UK universities are: Queen's University of Belfast, University of Birmingham, Cardiff University, University College London, University of Nottingham, University of Warwick, University of Liverpool, University of Leeds and University of Cambridge.
