UK-China Researcher Links Workshop on the Electrification of Road Transport held in Tianjin

From 17-20, Dec, 2018, UK-China Researcher Links Workshop on the Electrification of Road Transport 2018 was held successfully in Tianjin. Prof. Kui Jiao from Tianjin University (China) and A.P. Jin Xuan from Loughborough University (UK) cochairmen the conference supported by Newton Fund, BC and NSFC.

The Vice President of Tianjin University Shuxin Wang and Head of Science in Education British Council Kiki Liang were invited to the conference. 20 UK scholars from 10 colleges including LU, IC and UCL and 20 China scholars from colleges and research institutions such as TJU, XJTU and CATARC made 45 academic presentations on the current hot topics like fuel cell, system controlling, new fuel and advanced engine in the conference and had a deep discussion on the trends of resource development and corresponding solutions.

On 18th morning, the opening ceremony chaired by Prof. Kui Jiao started. The Vice President of Tianjin University Shuxin Wang addressed the opening speech. On behalf of TJU, he expressed enthusiastic congratulation on the convening of the conference and heartfelt appreciation for the supports from BC and NSFC and extended cordial welcome to all the guests. The Head of Science in Education British Council Kiki Liang appreciated the committee and gave an introduction on the status and roles of Education British Council in the cooperation between UK and China. At last, she expected more cooperation between scholars from UK and China.

Later, Prof. Zhiguo Qu from XJTU and Prof. Rui Chen from LU were invited to made keynotes titled “Fundamental Investigation on Lithium Ion Battery Thermal Management” and “Beyond Zero Carbon – A Whole-Systems Energy Approach”, respectively. In the next two days, 45 academic presentations were made by scholars from China and UK. The contents of the presentations covered many current hot issues like fuel cell lifetime and water management, advanced clean energy, battery storage and advanced battery material.

On 19th afternoon, the participants were invited to visit the TJU campus and history museum to show the beauty and history of TJU. The UK scholars expressed great interest on Chinese culture.

On 20th morning, A.P. Jin Xuan chaired the round-table discussion and shared his experience on building international cooperation. Dr. Norbert Radacsi made the presentation on how to publish on journals with high impact factors. Then scholars had a lively discussion on their concern topics, which was a good opportunity to build further cooperation.

The conference which formed a platform for communication and cooperation between UK and China was a huge success. For both sides, it had great significances on promoting development in clean energy, broaden the international visions for young scholars and further academic cooperation.
