Alumnus Jack Hu named senior vice president of the University of Georgia

Jack Hu (Hu Shixin) who graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering in 1983 has been named the University of Georgia’s next senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

Hu, currently the vice president for research at the University of Michigan is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of the National Academies’ Transportation Research Board. He was elected as one of the Foreign Members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2017 for his distinguished contributions to mechanical engineering and to the promotion of China-USA exchanges and cooperation in engineering sciences and technology.

In an interview by the UGATODAY, Hu said that “I am humbled and honored to join the University of Georgia as its next provost.” He considered that as the birthplace of public higher education in America, the University of Georgia had a tremendous reputation for its commitment to excellence in education, research and innovation, and public engagement. “I look forward to working with the campus community to build upon the university’s momentum in these important areas.”
