TJU and DTmobile to Construct the First 5G Application Demonstration Base among Chinese Universities

On March 7, TJU and Datang Mobile (DTmobile), a high-tech company, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. According to the agreement, both sides will rely on Tianjin University’s unmanned vehicle research center to develop and cooperate on 5G technologies and intelligent networking technologies: the exploration of cutting-edge technologies, joint talent cultivation, and commercialization of research achievements.

In addition, DTmobile will support TJU on the construction of 5G technology experimental base, which will mark the start of the construction of the first 5G application demonstration base among Chinese universities.

The signing ceremony was held at the Peiyangyuan Campus. TJU’s Vice President Wang Shuxin and DTmoble’s Vice General Manager Yu Jilong signed the agreement. More than 30 delegates from each side attended the ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, Yu Jilong highlighted DTmobile’s development, the representative product of cybersecurity and 5G scale networking and their application. He indicated that DTmobile will take full advantage of its 5G technology, internet of vehicles, and intelligent networking technology to establish steady collaboration with TJU in the fields of intelligent internet of vehicles and intelligent manufacturing. Together, they will research and develop new technologies that the industry demands and cultivate top-notch interdisciplinary talents. Yu also hopes that this collaboration will only be a start and that both sides continue to explore further cooperation in other fields in the future.

Wang Shuxin gave an introduction to TJU’s disciplinary layout, the construction plan of the emerging engineering education, and TJU’s support and emphasis on interdisciplinary curriculum. He hoped that with the joint efforts between TJU and DTmobile, China’s 5G technology will become leaders in the international community.

At the seminar, TJU’s doctoral student Xiao Pengbo, master student Yang Xu, postdoc Cao Jiale and Associate Professor Zhu Pengfei from the unmanned vehicle research center delivered 4 academic reports respectively on intelligent tracking algorithm and the research and development of controllers, intelligent control and path planning, object detection and segmentation, and environment perception models and algorithm. The topics centered on the updates of TJU’s research on unmanned vehicles. Zhou Zhenglan, Manager of Market Department of DTmobile, introduced DTmobile’s progress and application of its research on the internet of vehicles. The attendees exchanged their ideas and worked out the content of the work to be done in the near future, with the current situation and phased goals as a reference.
