Jin Donghan Inaugurated as Tianjin University’s New Leader

As the first modern university in China, Tianjin University should stick to its mission of developing education for national strength and prosperity, carry out the motto of “Seeking Truth from Facts”, promote the spirit of “Precise Learning and Strict Teaching”, follow the tradition of patriotism and devotion and become a cradle for innovation and creation, Jin Donghan said Wednesday as he was formally installed as Tianjin University’s president, succeeding Zhong Denghua, the current Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education.

"To be the president of Tianjin University, a university that I deeply respect and look forward to working at, I feel the mission is glorious yet challenging. I will serve the university community wholeheartedly. I will not hesitate to carry out policies that are in students’ or teachers’ interests and that are beneficial to the university's development.” Jin addressed the audience in the morning inauguration ceremony held on Peiyangyuan Campus of Tianjin University.

Liu Housheng from the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC announced the official appointment. Officers from the Ministry of Education and Tianjin municipal Party committee made remarks. Li Jiajun, the party secretary of Tianjin University, on behalf of the university, delivered a welcoming speech. Nearly 300 representatives of the university community, teachers and students included, were invited to attend the ceremony and greeted the new president.

Born in January, 1961, Jin Donghan, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is an expert in internal combustion engine research and has committed himself to the application of new types of engines and their power systems while working as the director and chief engineer in the Seventh Research Institute of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. He was appointed as the president of Shanghai University in 2015.
