The 11th World Alumni Congress of Tianjin University Held in Changsha, Hunan

On October 28, the 11th World Alumni Congress of Tianjin University opened in Changsha, Hunan Province. The Alumni Congress gathered about 400 Tianjin University alumni from 122 alumni associations all over the world.

Up to October 27, more than 23,736 alumni have lightened the ‘alumni map’ online, sending best wishes to Alma Mater from 67 countries and regions.

The Alumni Congress has gained strong support from the government of Hunan Province. Vice Chairman Ouyang Bin of Hunan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) delivered a speech. He stated that in 2009, Tianjin University had signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the government of Hunan Province. For years, Tianjin University and Hunan Province have carried out multi-level cooperation in various fields of science and technology, education, and talent cultivation, including the fields of petrochemicals, fine chemicals, equipment manufacturing, clean energy, and urban power grid. Both sides have achieved mutual benefit and common development. Vice Chairman Ouyang Bin believed that this Alumni Congress would provide an opportunity to deepen the cooperation to make greater achievements with respective strengths including Tianjin University’s strengths in science and technology and talent, as well as favorable geography and policy of Hunan Province.

Tianjin University Party Secretary Li Jiajun expressed appreciation for the contributions of TJU alumni to their alma mater, saying, “Your alma mater gives you thumbs up for the glories you won for her.” He encouraged all TJU alumni to join efforts with their alma mater for her development into a world-class university.

Tianjin University President Zhong Denghua stressed that Tianjin University’s rapid development owes to the support of its alumni. All Tianjin University people should work together to build TJU to be a world-class university.

The Congress has received messages of congratulations from numerous peer colleges and universities. Central South University Party Secretary Gao Wenbing and Hunan University President Duan Xianzhong attended the Congress and extended their best wishes to Tianjin University.
