TJU Excels in National Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition

The national final of the Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition for College Students sponsored by the Ministry of Education was held from September 16 to 18, 2021. It was organized by the Guiding Committee of the Engineering Training and Teaching of the Ministry of Education and hosted by Tsinghua University. Four teams from Tianjin University entered the final and won 1 gold medal, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. The energy-driven vehicle team guided by Mr. Wang Hui from the Mechanical Engineering Practice and Teaching Center won the gold medal.

Mr. Wang’s team from the School of Mechanical Engineering dealt with parts processing and assembly and on-site debugging of the racing vehicle. They exhibited a high command of mechanical theories and design, mathematical modeling and programming, and three-dimensional design and drawing. With outstanding performance, the team won the gold medal.

The excellent performance has fully demonstrated students' sound consciousness of engineering innovation, practical ability and teamwork spirit, showed the instructors’ sense of responsibility and mission, and laid a good foundation for cultivating students' abilities of engineering practice and innovation. At the same time, it has also provided a new teaching model for the reform of new engineering education and teaching.

The Engineering Practice and Innovation Ability Competition for College Students, as one of the three major contests sponsored by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, has attracted 19,000 teams composed of 66,000 students from 690 colleges and universities to attend this year. A total of 427 teams entered the national final after preliminaries. Innovation motivated and demand driven, the contest closely follows the latest national engineering development, and incorporates engineering ethics and culture.
