Dr. Zhen Zhang received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in automation from Tianjin University, Tianjin, China, in 2004 and 2007, respectively, and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2014. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a full-time Engineer at SoftBrands Co., Ltd. abd NNE Pharmaplan Co., Ltd. In addition, he was a visiting scholar at IBM Research Laboratory supported by IBM Global Great Minds Program. Then, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow with The University of Hong Kong. He is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering at Tianjin University, an Honorary Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Hong Kong, and a Humboldt Visiting Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Technical University of Munich.

His research focuses on power electronics and control technologies for renewable energies. Specifically, his research interests fall into Power Conversion, Wireless Power Transfer (WPT), Motor Drives, Flexible Loads, Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), High-Performance Embedded Computing, Neural Network Control, and Industry Control. He has authored or coauthored more than 60 internationally refereed papers and 2 book published by Cambridge University Press and Wiley-IEEE Press. His research interests include wireless power transfer, electric drives, electric vehicles, power electronics, and distributed energies.

Dr. Zhang is the recipient of the Humboldt Research Fellowship, the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Research Fellowship, and JSPS Visiting Fellowship. He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, an Associate Editor of the IET Renewable Power Generation and an Executive Editor of the Cambridge Journal - Wireless Power Transfer.
