Brief Introduction

Liu Sailin is a Jingying Professor and doctoral supervisor at Tianjin University, and a recipient of the 2025 National Overseas Outstanding Young Scientist Fund. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Wollongong, Australia, in 2021, and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Adelaide, Australia, from 2021 to 2024, under the supervision of Academician Zaiping Guo. She served as an ARC Early Career Industrial Fellow (2024–2026). Her honors include the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad (Special Outstanding Award), the Institution of Engineers Australia (IEAust) Outstanding Research Award in the Oceania Region, and the University of Adelaide’s Best Academic Contribution Award.

Her research focuses on solid waste recycling, battery recycling and simulation, and the regulation of electrometallurgical processes, with an emphasis on key scientific issues such as ion solvation structures, interfacial deposition kinetics, and mass transfer intensification in microfluidic flow fields. In recent years, she has served as principal investigator for the ARC Early Career Industry Fellowship and the ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award. As first or corresponding author, she has published papers in internationally renowned journals such as *Science Advances*, *Angewandte Chemie*, and *Energy & Environmental Science*, including 10 ESI highly cited papers. Her publications have garnered over 8,300 citations, with an H-index of 35 (Google Scholar).

The research group benefits from the support of national-level talent programs and the distinguished platform of Tianjin University, providing ample funding and growth opportunities. It places great emphasis on research students’ dedication and achievements, offering competitive stipends and support. The group fully supports graduate students in engaging with cutting-edge international research and provides outstanding students with opportunities for joint training or collaborative research at top overseas universities, helping them publish their academic work in high-impact international journals.

Applications are welcome year-round for Ph.D. and master’s students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants. Young talents interested in the fields of high-value solid waste recycling and data-driven simulation technologies are encouraged to reach out and join the team!

Lab of Spent Battery Recycling and Data-Driven Simulation
Our las focuses on the resource utilization of spent batteries, covering the efficient extraction of valuable metals, structural repair and high-value regeneration of electrode materials. It integrates big data analytics with multi-scale modeling and simulation to deeply elucidate the microscopic mechanisms and macroscopic principles underlying the resource recovery process. In addition, it conducts life-cycle environmental risk simulation and assessment, establishing a risk prevention and control system that spans source prevention to process optimization. The laboratory is dedicated to driving the strategic transformation of the battery recycling industry from end-of-pipe treatment to proactive front-end risk control.
