Brief Introduction

Prof. Sun, has been working in indoor environment field since 2003. Her group has a very long-standing track record in elucidating the association between indoor environment and occupants’ health.

Prof. Sun is the principal investigator for two major epidemiological studies in China: Chinese Children Health and Home (CCHH); and the Chemical Exposure and Children’s Health (CHECH). She is also the main force of an international CHH (Child, Health and Home)-network where studies with the same protocol are conducted in 8 countries/areas (Sweden, Bulgaria, Singapore, Taiwan, USA, Denmark, China, and Korea). These studies are focusing on exposures to environmental factors (such as chemicals and microbiological agents) and the importance of such exposure for the development of chronic disease and illness in children. Her primary research focus has been on chemical exposures, and more specifically on suspected endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs). In modern societies, these EDCs have numerous potential sources indoors. Together with poor ventilation in modern tight buildings which cannot remove indoor pollutants efficiently, EDCs exposure indoors have substantial influence on children’s health, especially for “modern” disease.

She has published scientific papers (citation, 590; H-index, 15) in peer reviewed journals with topics on modern disease, building ventilation and phthalates exposure. She has been chairperson at various workshops and international scientific conferences (such as Indoor Air; Healthy Building; ISES); has been member in the following international scientific societies: International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE), Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences(CSES). She has received research funding, as Principle Investigator, from Natural National Science Foundation of China; State Ministry of Science and Technology, China; Tianjin Science and Technology Committee; Ministry of Urban Plan and Housing Construction, China.
