Nan Jiang is a Professor in the Department of Mechanics at the Tianjin University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Mathematics. He is the chief of applied mechanics section and leader of state key subject of fluid mechanics of Tianjin University. He is also the director of fluid mechanics laboratory and Tianjin state key laboratory of modern engineering mechanics. He directs a research group that focus on the experimental measurement of turbulent boundary layer, coherent structure control and drag reduction. He received his B.S. in the Department of Applied Mathematics in 1990, M.S. and Ph.D. in the Department of Mechanics at Tianjin University in 1993 and 1996. In 2001, he was appointed Professor in the Department of Fluid Mechanics at the Tianjin University. In 2006, he was elected the New Century Excellent Talent by Education Ministry of China. In 2009, he visited the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology of DLR, in Goettingen, Germany as a visiting scholar. He is the director of sciences popularization working committee of CSTAM. He is the member of flow visualization working party of Chinese Society of Aerodynamics, fluid mechanics working party of CSTAM, rheology working party of CSTAM and mechanics history and methodology working party of CSTAM.
