Brief Introduction

Dr. Zhanjie Xu is a faculty member and master's supervisor at the School of Earth System Science, Tianjin University, specializing in the field of atmospheric and environmental geochemistry. His research has been supported by grants from key national programs, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Key R&D Program, where he serves as Principal Investigator or a key participant. He has published extensively, with numerous papers appearing in high-profile international journals, including JGR-A, ACP, EST, and Biogeosciences, as well as renowned domestic journals such as  China Environmental Science, Journal of Earth Sciences, and Environment.

  • Research Focus
My research combines principles from geology and isotope geochemistry to study the influence of anthropogenic aerosols on the atmosphere and climate by using stable carbon isotope techniques. My group and I explore two main research frontiers:

    • Understanding Aerosol Sources and Fates: We focus on identifying the anthropogenic sources of atmospheric aerosols, investigating how they transform through atmospheric processes, and mapping their complex journey from emission to deposition.

    • Connecting Anthropogenic Activities (e.g., Fossil Fuels Usage) and Aerosols: We conduct foundational research into the isotope geochemistry of fossil fuels to clarify the link between fossil fuel combustion and aerosol formation.

  • Supervision and Opportunities
As a master's supervisor, I welcome ambitious and talented students from Geography, Environmental Science, and Resources and Environment to join my team. If you are passionate about atmospheric environmental geochemistry, energy geology, and developing advanced isotope techniques, please get in touch to discuss research opportunities. Together, we can tackle crucial questions at the intersection of energy, climate, and environmental science.
