Brief Introduction

Professor Yang Zhang is a Distinguished Professor at Tianjin University and a Visiting Professor at The University of Tokyo. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology, and the Royal Society of Medicine, with the post-nominal letters FRSC, FRSB, and FRSM. He also serves as Deputy Director of the Tianjin International Joint Research Center for Molecular Science.

Professor Zhang serves as an Editorial Board Member of Communications Biology, BMC Biology, and PLOS Genetics. He has also served as a Guest Editor for TrAC, Trends in Analytical Chemistry. His research spans the interdisciplinary fields of computational chemistry and biological chemistry. It focuses on AI-driven biological computation, bioanalysis, and nucleic acid biochemistry.

Professor Zhang has served as principal investigator for more than ten research grants. These include projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial and ministerial science and technology programs, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. He has published more than 70 high-impact SCI-indexed articles as corresponding author in leading international journals.

His representative publications have appeared in Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods, Advanced Science, and Med, a Cell Press journal. He has also published in Trends in Biotechnology, Trends in Microbiology, Trends in Parasitology, Trends in Genetics, and Cell Reports Physical Science. Several of these articles were selected as cover articles.

His work has also appeared in leading bioinformatics journals, including Briefings in Bioinformatics and Bioinformatics. In chemistry and biochemistry, he has published in TrAC, Trends in Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. One article in Journal of Medicinal Chemistry was selected as a cover article.

His publications have received more than 4,000 citations. They have been cited by articles in internationally renowned journals, including Nature Reviews Methods Primers, Nature Methods, and Nature Biotechnology. Several of his papers have been designated as ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has been invited to author multiple monographs for Springer Nature, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Wiley.

Professor Zhang was listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists from 2021 to 2025. He holds one U.S. invention patent and seven authorized Chinese invention patents. He has also served as an invited peer reviewer for more than 60 international journals, including Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods, and Chemical Reviews.

The group is continuously recruiting Master's students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants to conduct research focused on deep learning-driven super-resolution microscopy reconstruction, nucleic acid-protein interaction prediction, and biomedical AI agents.
