

The National College Students' Entrepreneurship Competition came to an end at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China on November 19, 2016. In the finals, the two entrepreneurial teams from Tianjin University, Tianjin Galaxy Leap Technology Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Orange Technology Co. Ltd, who co-invented the MetaRobot, won a silver medal respectively in the entrepreneurial practice competition. Tianjin Orange Technology Co., Ltd obtained angel venture capital funding of 4-million-yuan. While Galaxy Leap technology Co., Ltd gained the Shaanxi Xike angel venture capital funding of 10-million-yuan and signed a promotion agreement for prize winners at the presentation ceremony.
The National College Students' Entrepreneurship "Youth Inventions" Competition was held every two years since 2014. There are three main events in the competition: the college students business plan competition; the entrepreneurship practice challenge; and the entrepreneurship contest. Each event aims to develop innovative consciousness, inspire creative thinking, enhance creativity, and cultivate entrepreneurial talent. This competition is co-sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the China Association for Science and Technology, the National Students and Scholars Association and the People's Government of Sichuan Province. The competition is organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Communist Youth League of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, the People's Government of Chengdu City, and the People's Government of Mianyang City.
Tianjin University recommended that four projects enter the national heats, and after review, two of them reached the finals and won the silver medals. The two Tianjin University teams harvested investment funding of 14 million yuan.
The two entrepreneurial teams were incubated in the 'Maker Space' "Joining as Partners" at Tianjin University. Under the "D + plan", a total of more than 20 entrepreneurial teams joined the space in 2016.
Tianjin University, based on the "double top construction initiative", views creative and entrepreneurial education as a comprehensive reform of our school's personnel training, so as to cultivate innovative talents with entrepreneurial spirit. That means making serious efforts to build an innovation system of entrepreneurship-oriented education with the characteristics of Tianjin University. That is, to provide better policy support and environment for undergraduate students to participate in scientific research projects, high-level competitions, and set up innovative entrepreneurial teams, in order to train students' innovative spirit and improve the students' innovative ability.
Tianjin Galaxy Leap Technology Co. Ltd. team was launched by the International Center of Modern Mechanisms and Robotics at Tianjin University, under the guidance of the Professor Dai Jiansheng of the national "One Thousand Talents Program", combined with the leading-edge cell-varying technology, to research, develop, produce and sell transformable, intelligent, multifunctional robots. The team is unique in using the cell-varying technology, with which the team has invented the world's first MetaRobot which can reconstruct and reorganize itself according to the road and other environmental conditions and mission requirements. This will be applied widely in the education of scientific research, disaster relief, ocean exploration, military logistics, and other fields. In 2016, the team was successively awarded first prize in the National College Students Entrepreneurship Robot Contest, second prize of the third session of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei College Students' Innovation Entrepreneurship Competition, and second prize of the Scientific Innovation Competition in the Tianjin division. Furthermore, on October 12 this year, this team, as the only student entrepreneurial one, launched the 2016 National Week for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative in Tianjin division jointly with He Shushan, the vice mayor of Tianjin.
Zheng Yan, the leader of the Tianjin Orange Technology Co. Ltd. team, is a PhD candidate in the school of software in Tianjin University, and Zhou Jieming, the director of the team, graduated in 2010 from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, winning the title of the star of the second session of the Xiqing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The product Lingmengce is a kind of website test tool targeting enterprises and software developers, trying to develop efficient and concise models of automation, instead of the current inefficient and repeated manual testing models. There are more than 200 enterprises participating in the product testing. Cooperative enterprises include the Chinese Automotive Technology Research Center, Sailing Cloud Technology, Aikeshi, etc. The company gained 400,000 yuan in seed investment from Tsinghua University Foundation in January 2015, is valued at about 4.7 million yuan, and raised 4 million yuan from angel venture funding in 2016. The team successively won first prize in the Tianjin College Students Entrepreneurship Competition in 2015, first prize in the Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and also first prize in the China Science and Technology Innovation Contest, and many other awards.
