Good Results at Pharmaceutical Science Competition

From November 10 to 12, 2016, students and faculty members of the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology from Tianjin University got good results from the First National Pharmacy and Traditional Chinese Pharmaceutical Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students and Experimental Teaching Reform in Nanjing, Jiangsu. The Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Chemistry Wang Donghua won the second prize in the experimental teaching reform project. Instructed by Associate Professor Huang Jianhui, 2013 undergraduates Huang Lin, Liu Liu, Wang Qing investigated a novel method of synthesizing Vismodegib, the anti-cancer drug, which was awarded the Grand prize in the competition.

This competition was held jointly by the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Education and the China Pharmaceutical University. Participants were divided into two groups: the innovation and entrepreneurship group for students and the experimental reform group for teachers. There were 117 projects (67 projects from the innovation and entrepreneurship groups and 48 from the experimental reform groups) and 115 competitors from 45 universities who participated in the assessment and final defense.

The aim of this competition is to promote the overall ability of students from Schools of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology to make innovations and to start their own businesses. In particular, it intends to encourage students to focus on the practical applications of their projects and their innovative values as well as the potential for industrialization. The competition should become a platform for students to discuss their innovations and entrepreneurship projects in the pharmacy field and for faculty's to interact and share their perspectives on experimental teaching reform.

After the competition, the representatives visited the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Pharmacy, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Pharmaceutical Virtual Simulation, the GMP workshops and the virtual pharmacy.
