
After 4 days’ of fierce competition, the Tianjin University (TJU) team came away rewarded in the Tianjin College Students’ Tennis Tournament this year, with the men’s team being crowned champions and women’s team finishing in second place.
In the individual events, they’ve received a championship medal and a runner-up as they did in the last tournament, together with two students who finished in third place. The women’s singles champion was Liao Luzhe, while Yan Zijie claimed second prize in men’s singles. Both Wang Yi and Hao Xindi finished third in the women’s doubles, while Yuan Quan and Li Wenjun came in third in men’s doubles.
In preparing for the tournament, 4 male and 4 female students were selected, and they received training from professional coaches Ye Guohong and Gao Xiangjun. Mr. Gao has a national level tennis judge qualification. He has worked as a judge in many well-known international events, such as the Beijing Olympic Games, the Guangzhou Asian Games, the Universiade Shenzhen, Tianjin East Asian Games, and the China Open.
Mr. Ye had abundant experience in training students, while the TJU tennis team had great success in municipal events in Tianjin and national levels with the help of Mr. Ye, Liao Luzhe finished 5th in the National College Students Tennis Tournament Women’s Singles event in 2012 and 6th in 2013. Since 2011, student athletes have continued to win championships and second prizes in women’s team and women singles events in the Tianjin College Students’ Tennis Tournament.
