On October 25, 2015, the national dance “Silk Road” was performed at the Peiyang Park Campus of Tianjin University. At the performance, the artists from the Gansu Dance Troupe reproduced the epic wonderland of the Dunhuang Grotto to an audience of over 2,000 staff and students. The performance was attended by Tianjin University’s Vice President Shu Gequn.
In a solemn and awe-inspiring atmosphere of theDunhuang Buddha, the Chinese national dance performance of the “Thousand-Hand Avalokitesvara” won many thunderous applauses and exclamations of “Wow! So beautiful” every now and then among the audience. The dance pieces of “Flying Apsaras” and “Rebounding Lute” reflecting the murals of the Dunhuang Grotto were performed on stage. During the performance of approximately two hours, the changing scenes and beautiful dance condensed the legend of the “Silk Road” into a gripping and enduring performance, presenting a visual and spiritual feast for the staff and students.
The performance of the “Silk Road” portrayed the heyday of China’s Tang Dynasty and told the stories of the world-famous Silk Road and the murals of the Dunhuang Grotto. It eulogizes the laboring people in creating the culture of Dunhuang and the long-standing friendships between Chinese and people from around the world. The “Silk Road” has been performed in over twenty countries and regions, receiving unanimous praises and is referred to as a “Model for the Chinese National Dance”.
The performance of “Silk Road” at Tianjin University is one event of a series of activities “Introducing Classic Art On Campus 2015”. “Introducing Classic Art On Campus” which has been initiated in China since 2005, and has received a warm welcome from students.
