On October 21, 2015, the first Summer Internship Defense of the Tianjin International Engineering Institute (TIEI) at Tianjin University (TJU) was held at the Weijin Road Campus. This defense is to assess the results of the first-phase of the students’ internship during the three phases of internships in their engineering studies. It aims at deepening the students’ understanding of the value of undertaking internships, promoting the institute’s understanding of the effects of the students’ internship, and enhances and strengthens the relationship between the institute and enterprises.
The Chairman of Polytech Nice-Sophia Philippe Gourbesville and Party Secretary Shan Xiaolin of TJU’s Qiushi College attended the defense. Reviewers of the defense included representatives from the School of Architecture, and the School of Computer Science and Technology, as well as seven well-known local enterprises (also members of TIEI Business Club).
At the defense, students, in groups, gave presentations of their achievements during the summer internships, and received unanimous praise from the attendees. Following the defense, Chairman Gourbesville had a discussion with the students and answered their questions.
TIEI, combining the engineering training model in France, set up three phases of internships for students, including the one-month “blue collar” internship during the first academic year, the three-month “assistant engineer” internship during the second academic year, and the six-month “engineer” internship during the third academic year. This defense brought the first “blue collar” internship of TIEI to a successful close.
Afterwards, Party Secretary Shan had a discussion about the students’ internships in France and student exchanges with Chairman Gourbesville. They also exchanged ideas on the CTI certification application. Chairman Gourbesville offered suggestions on the syllabus and development of the website for the institute.
