Personal Profile
Jia Weiyang is an Associate Professor in the School of Architecture of Tianjin University, a teacher of the Department of Environmental Design, and Deputy Director of the Accessible & Universal Design Research Center of Tianjin University. He is a well-known Accessible Design expert in China, as a member of the Accessibility Expert Committee of China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF), deputy secretary-general of the Elderly Health Environment Professional Committee of the Chinese Aging Well Association, a member of the Age-Friendly Building Committee of Architectural Society of China, and a member of Technical Expert Committee of China Construction Testing and Certification Union. He has served as a consulting expert for accessible planning and design of many major national projects, including the Beijing Daxing International Airport, the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games venue, and Chongli District Accessible Planning for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Jia Weiyang’s researches are focused on accessible design and age-friendly planning & design. He is the Chief Researcher of the National Key R&D Program subject "Research on Common Key Technologies of Active Healthy Building Infrastructure for the Elderly and the Disabled", the National Natural Science Foundation "Quantitative Design Strategies on Color & Scale of Architecture Accessible Signage", the sub-project of the National Key R&D Program "Research on Evaluation Index for Age-Friendly Residential Space and Service Facilities’ Renovation" and "Convenient and Smart Life Service System and Technical Route for the Accessible Needs of the Winter Paralympic Games ", with more than 30 papers published. He is the chief Editor of the CDPF standard "Guidelines for Signage Environment Design ", CECS (China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization) Standard “Assessment standard for age-friendly residential space and service facilities", and participated in compilation of many national and association standards.
Jia received Ph.D. degree in architectural design and theory from Tianjin University in 2008 and then has taught at the university until now. He lectured on many professional courses such as "Architectural Design / Interior Design”, "Design Technology Basics ". His courses "Accessible Design", " Philosophy & Practice Study on Barrier-free Design ", " Accessibility—Humanized Design in Life " (Nankai University) were confirmed by CDPF that they were the first undergraduate, the first graduate and the first college general education course on accessible design in China respectively. The textbook "Accessible Design" edited by him and other teachers, a Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development planning educational material, is also the first college professional accessible design textbook in China. Lots of students' works supervised by him have won gold or other awards in international and domestic design competitions.

Research Group
In 2019, supported by CDPF and Tianjin University, the Accessible Design Institute, together with the Urban Planning and Design Institute of Tianjin University, established a university research institution—Accessible & Universal Design Research Center of Tianjin University (AUDRC).
