Built Environment Research Laboratory (BERL) at Tianjin University founded in 2009 belongs to the Department of Building Environment and Energy Application of the School of Environmental Science and Engineering. BERL is directed by Dr. Qingyan Chen, Changjiang Chair Professor. BERL has another professor, five associate professors, five Guest/Adjunct Professors, and more than 30 graduate research assistants, who make the whole team energetic and dynamic.

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Indoor Air Environmental Quality Control (IAQ) located at Tianjin University founded in 2014 belongs to the School of Environmental Science and Engineering. In this team, there are 13 professors, 9 associate professors, 4 lecturers and engineers, 5 senior engineers and other technical service companies. The main direction includes geothermal energy, solar energy, industrial waste heat low temperature heat source heat pump technology, power technology, building energy-saving and heat transfer enhancement technology.
